Enjoy Sushi at a Popular Local Shop

Awa-Kamogawa is an area with scenic mountain and ocean views, and is home to Kamogawa SeaWorld, traditional ryokan hotels, and the internationally visited Kameda Hospital.

This time we’d like to introduce a sushi restaurant within a 3 minute walk from JR Awa-Kamogawa Station, “SUSHI SASAMOTO (鮨笹元).”

The place isn’t big, but the family-run sushi restaurant has a great atmosphere with counter seating and low-standing tables called KOAGARI for sitting on the tatami.

During our visit we ordered the CHIRASHI DON, a rice bowl topped with a bunch of fresh seafood. There are a variety of CHIRASHI DON to choose from at SASAMOTO, but I went with the 1700 yen meal.

The rice is made using a light vinegar flavoring, the same as sushi rice, and the toppings consist of a variety of local vegetables. The fish came on a separate plate topped with a special dressing. After thoroughly mixing, we topped the rice with the fish and enjoyed the great combination of flavors.

The meal came complete with a Hijiki seaweed dish and Miso soup.

In addition to the CHIRASHI DON and SUSHI, the shop has a large selection of seafood including sweetened boiled fish and SASHIMI. There is also locally brewed Japanese Sake to try.

Immerse yourself in the local area and cuisine at SASAMOTO.
Kamogawa, located right on the coast, is a great place to get delicious seafood!
