Celebrating the vernal equinox

Sansui Ryokan, a Japanese style hotel located in Kamogawa City, Chiba Prefecture, is a 17-minute car ride from Seichoji Temple. The temple follows the Nichiren Sect of Buddhism and will be celebrating the vernal equinox in a ritual known as “Setsubun.”

The ritual features traditional parade floats and a prayer ceremony for good luck outside the main hall of the temple. While chanting “Fuku wa uchi (Fortune in!),” beans along with prize tickets are tossed into the crowd.
